Things to Prepare Before Winter Internship

Winter internships are about to begin.

If you’ve never had an internship before, now is the time to get prepared. If you have had internships before, you can never be too prepared.

Below are some things you need to do before you apply for winter internship.

Get to know yourself

Everything begins with you. Whether you want to have an internship that is similar to your major or you want to try another industry, it’s important to know what you want.

Before you apply for that winter internship, try to ask yourself the following questions:

Why do you want to do internship?

What is your preference industry?

What is your desired position?

Which company is suitable with your industry?

Where do you want to do your internship?

Doing internship is not the same as studying in college. You are working. You cannot just choose randomly your industry or destination, take it, and leave it when you realize it is different from your expectation.

Internship can be your stepping stone for your future career. Take some times to reflect what you want with your internship and future career.

Get to know the position you’re applying

Now you already know your preference industry, it is time to learn about your industry. Sometimes what you think about the industry can be different form the reality. That’s why it’s important to learn about it beforehand.

Make sure you know what skills are expected for the position you are applying. Go back to yourself and see whether you are qualified or not. Don’t get discouraged if you find yourself don’t possess certain skills. It’s your time to learn before your winter internship start!

Get to know your company

Take the time to research the company that you are applying. Before you even arrive, companies expect you to have a solid idea of what their company does. Incoming interns should read through company websites and social media sites to get a feel for their culture, structure, and mission.

Get to know your destination

Lastly, learn about your destination, especially if you want to have winter internship abroad. One of the things than can make interns frustrate during their internships is culture shock. The differences can be overwhelming especially if you don’t know how to handle and overcome it. That’s why you need to prepare beforehand so that you know what you’ll face.

Use your Google and find about you destination country’s culture and custom, the dos and don’ts, and even the weather!
