Never think you don’t need leadership skill because you’re still an intern. We don’t need to be in a certain position to have a leadership skill. In fact, we all need to have a leadership skill. The most important thing is how you change your attitude and behaviors so you can develop this skill naturally. Here’s some things you can do to practice leadership during your internship.
Know yourself
It begins with ourselves. We need to know and accept ourselves before we can lead others.
Be aware of your strengths and weaknesses, and accept it. Find a solution on how to deal with your weaknesses. Know your goals. These things will motivate you to do your job better. Have good communication skill
One of the important key of being a good leader is the communication skill. Having a good communication skill will help you build relationships with other people and this is what you need. You can practice this habit by greeting your coworkers, talking to them, or even sharing your feelings.
One thing to remember, communication isn’t only about how you talk to others but also about how you listen to others. So, make sure not to only focus on yourself but also let your partners talk and listen to them.
Be open
Besides reading many kind of books, you can gain knoweledge through your coworkers! Be open to any kind of critics and suggetions from your coworkers. Listen to their ideas even though it may be different from yours. Who knows it can help you to solve a problem or even spark another idea later on.
Be assertive
Being assertive is an important attitude to practice leadership. You can practice this by not letting yourself and also others violate the rules or values within the team. Besides it, you also need to be assertive if you find someone violate the rule or neglect his responsibility.
