Be thoughtful about what you include

Before you can figure out how to show off your work, you need to understand what you want others to see.

Even though you’ve done a lot of works or projects, you should be selective about what you include. After all, people have limited attention spans. So, better show your samples of work that best demonstrate your talent and experience.

Select only your strongest pieces

Don’t grab everything you’ve ever created.  Set aside time to go through all of your pieces, exclude anything you’re not proud of or don’t think is your best work.

Make people think “wow, now this is cool!”

If you don’t already have a master list or collection of your work, start by making one.

It’s Not Just About Your Work

While your past work is a critical aspect when someone’s thinking about working with you, it’s important to remember that said person isn’t looking to hire your work, but the person who made it.

A good portfolio is made even better when you include a bit about your story, background, and value. Or, even what type of person you’re like to work with.

Make it Easy to Navigate

Make sure your online portfolio is not confusing. When you’ve got a lot of work to show off, placing everything on one page can be overwhelming. Try to use categories. Furthermore, categories can demonstrate your range. It let the visitor know what range you’re capable at.

Stay current

Don’t include anything older than 3 years. Trends, techniques and technology changes quickly. You don’t want to look dated!

Go Social

Include social media buttons at prominent locations on your online portfolio to facilitate easy sharing of your masterpieces. Further, it's important to build connections and grow your network. Make your presence on popular social media websites like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
