Finally! You Got the Interview. Now What?
After applying for several job opportunities, you finally received an interview invitation. Yay!
But, how do you prepare for an interview as effectively as possible, especially when you’re short on time?
No worries! If you still don’t know where to start practicing for your interview, you can try the 3R Method.
- Research, before the interview, find out more about the company you are applying for. You can check the company’s website, social media, articles, or other sources of information. Then you will have a better knowledge of the company and show that you’re genuinely interested in the position you’re applying for.
- Recall, try to recall your past experiences, achievements, organizational involvement, internships, or projects you have worked on. Also, consider experiences that demonstrate skills relevant to the position you are applying for. This will help you when interviewer asks for examples of your experience or inquires about your capabilities
- Rehearse, Practice makes perfect! Try practicing your answers to interview questions before the day. You can practice in front of a mirror or record yourself answering. This allows you to observe your expressions, gestures, and speaking style. You will also feel more confident during the actual interview.
Besides the 3R, you can also use the STAR Method to help you answer interview questions, especially those that ask you to share your experiences.
STAR stands for:
- Situation: Describe the situation or condition you faced.
- Task: Explain your responsibilities or the task at hand in that situation.
- Action: Describe what you did to resolve the problem or complete the task.
- Result: Explain the outcome of your actions.
With the STAR Method, your answer will be more structured and easier for the interviewer to understand.
Those were a few methods you can use to prepare for an interview. Simple, right?
