Taking the first step to get out of your comfort zone often requires a great deal of courage. However, getting worried about the future or being anxious when you are about to try out something new is just a part of life. It is not even an exaggeration to say that a successful person is someone who is frequently thrust into the unknown and manage to come out of it for the better.  Here are a few ways to help you get out of your comfort zone.

Self-reflection

Feeling anxious when a change occurs, whether it happens in your social or work life, is something that arguably all of us have felt at some point in our life to a varying degree. To rise above your fear, you must first identify what it is in particular that scares you. Is it the fear of failure? Does the prospect of working with new people make you uncomfortable? Do you think that you do not possess the required skill to do the job well? Only after you find the source of your anxiety that you can start the journey to get out of your comfort zone.

Focus on the good

Why does the unknown scare us so? The most common answer would most likely be because we fear for the worst. We tend to forget about all the good things that could also happen if we are just brave enough to take the plunge. When you are plagued with every possibility of how something can go wrong, think also about all the wonderful things that you can achieve. Consider your current path; are you sure that you are satisfied continuing on the same way without any change whatsoever?

Knowledge is power

Being well-prepared is the best way to quell your fears, especially for those who have a tendency to over-worry. If you have a picture in your mind of what you are going to be doing, those that seems unfamiliar at first will start to look less frightening. Educate yourself by doing research and asking for advice from people who have extensive experience on the subject. Train for the skills that you think can be useful in tackling the problems. Even spending some hours surfing the internet may proof to be insightful because nowadays many people freely shares their first-hand experience there. By getting acquainted with an unfamiliar subject, it will turn the unknown into something that is less daunting. It can make you see it as an exciting opportunity to learn something new rather than just seeing it as an obstacle in life. When you have more knoewledge, you will have more courage to get out of your comfort zone.

Embrace your fear

The most well thought out plan still has the possibility of going wrong. That is why after finishing with all the preparation, the rest you can do is just to embrace your fear. Acknowledge that those oppressive feelings are part of the process of facing the unknown and use it as a warning to prevent you from doing something reckless. Accept that there are multitudes of factors that are out of your hand and impossible to control because the future, by its very nature, is full of uncertainty. Instead of worrying needlessly, do everything you can to make the best out of all the things that you can actually do something about.

Trying your hand at something new will definitely present you with new challenges and obstacles. That experience can be both exciting and terrifying at the same time. But, changes are needed for you to be able to grow and truly experience what life has to offer. Stagnancy may give you comfort but it will also undoubtedly prevent you from doing something that is amazing and full of excitement. Dare to take the leap to get out of your comfort zone and you might be surprised at what you will find.
